For more depth, each topic has its own page — start with the foundation repair cost guide if price is the question, or slab foundation repair if you are trying to understand what is happening to your house. Longer answers live in the guides: signs of foundation problems, pier and beam vs. slab, insurance and foundation repair, and clay soil and foundation movement.
Questions and answers
What is Shreveport Foundation Company?
A referral service. We connect Shreveport-area homeowners with a local foundation specialist. We don't do the work — we route your request to one specialist who does. The specialist is an independent local business; your evaluation, quote, contract, and any warranty are with them.
Do I pay anything for the referral?
No. There is no charge to you for the referral. Whether the specialist charges for an evaluation is something to ask them directly before they come out.
What happens after I call or send the form?
Your request — what you are seeing, where, and how to reach you — is passed to one local foundation specialist, who contacts you to talk it through and arrange an evaluation if one makes sense. You decide whether to go ahead.
How much does foundation repair cost in Shreveport?
Published Shreveport ranges run $1,900 to $3,800 for minor crack repair and basic waterproofing and $2,300 to $23,900 for major repairs that need underpinning or piers. Those are published ranges from 2024 cost guides, not quotes.
What do piers and French drains cost?
Published national ranges put steel push piers at $990 to $1,350 per pier and helical piers at $3,500 to $4,400 per pier. Published Shreveport ranges put French drains at $24 to $37 per linear foot.
Is my house slab or pier and beam?
If there are vents or an access hatch along the base of the outside walls and a space under the floor, it is pier and beam. If the house sits at ground level on concrete, it is a slab. Slab-on-grade: The house rests on concrete poured at ground level, so a settled section is raised from beneath — piers are placed under it and the slab is brought back toward level. Pier-and-beam: The floor framing sits on piers above a crawl space, so the work happens from under the house — piers reset or added, shims adjusted, and rotted sills or beams replaced.
Is house leveling the same as foundation repair?
They overlap. On a raised house, leveling — resetting and adding piers, replacing rotted wood, shimming — is most of the repair. On a slab, leveling is the lift that follows installing piers. Either way the quote should separate the structural work from the drainage and finish work.
Which signs mean it is time to call?
Published warning-sign lists include doors and windows that stick, cracks running diagonally from the corners of doors and windows, cabinets pulling away from walls, nail pops in drywall, and floors that slope or bounce. One of these on its own can be minor; several together, or one that is getting worse, is worth an evaluation.
Are hairline cracks something to worry about?
Often not. Hairline cracks in drywall can come from normal settling, especially in newer houses. Mark the ends of a crack with a pencil and a date; if it grows past the marks, or arrives with other signs, have it looked at.
Why does water matter so much?
The LSU AgCenter describes Louisiana’s heavy clay soils as swelling when they are wet and cracking open when they dry — the kind of movement that makes building foundations difficult. LSU AgCenter guidance is to keep rainwater away from the foundation and drain groundwater before it reaches it, which is why drainage belongs on the quote.
What should a written foundation quote include?
Four separate lines, in this order: evaluation findings (what was measured and found — elevation readings, crack locations, construction type, likely cause); drainage / moisture correction (gutters, grading, downspouts, or crawlspace moisture work that addresses why the soil is moving); structural repair (piers, shims, or sill and beam replacement — with counts, locations, and depths stated); finish / cosmetic (drywall, brick, trim, and door adjustments after the house moves — priced on its own line).
Will the house be perfectly level afterward?
A written quote should not promise that. Published guidance from pier installers is that a house does not need to be returned to perfectly level for the repair to succeed. Ask what the target is and how it will be measured at the end.
Do I need a permit for foundation work?
Ask your specialist who pulls the permit.
Does homeowners insurance cover foundation repair?
Whether a policy covers foundation work depends on the policy — ask your carrier.
